“Working Craft” is a survey of emerging artists from around the Bay that focuses on the intersections of commercial craft aesthetics and fine art production. Typically seen as more accessible relative to traditional painting or sculpture techniques, the alternative works in this exhibition reveal a familiar yet fresh aesthetic persona that focuses on the handmade. Ranging from ceramics, airbrush, textiles, woodworking, & neon sculpture, this group show offers a wide breadth of creative exploration. The level of DIY experimentation here presents a level of dynamism that becomes as much a celebration of craft in the Bay Area, as it is a break from formal institutional seriousness. This ethos is as much reflected in the works displayed as in the venue itself. 120710 is a not-for-profit space for artists by artists to embrace curiosity & play. Our shows are diverse, experimental, and designed to foster grass-roots community growth. All proceeds are intended for the artists, and we welcome collaborators of all walks & mediums. We thank everyone involved in producing this show for their contributions and are excited to introduce the newest platform for Bay Area artists.
