Bio: "Tim Hyde works in the expanded field of photography, treating the camera as an architectural tool that both analyzes and constructs space. His photographs and videos examine how built environments and their inhabitants shape each other, approaching architecture not as static backdrop but as psychological and temporal medium. From filming bus passengers through the architectural frame of night windows to negotiating silent territories with a keeper in a former KGB building in Kiev, Hyde positions the camera as a tool for spatial analysis and reconstruction. Projects like The Memory Palace—seeing Los Angeles through an insomniac's waking dream—or Invisible City—echoing Calvino's malleable cities rebuilt around each visitor's projections—reveal architecture as something continuously performed rather than fixed. Hyde approaches photography as spatial thinking, where framing becomes a way of building. His practice treats images as sites rather than surfaces, generating structures for dialogue and frameworks for translation between different modes of knowledge. Hyde's work has been featured at the Philadelphia Museum of Art; Ar/ge Kunst Galerie Museum, Bolzano; Sculpture Center NYC; the de Young Museum; Neuberger Museum of Art; the Busan Biennale; Rose Museum at Brandeis University; and is held in collections including Pier 24 Photography and the Albright Knox Museum. His permanent installations with Tod Williams Billie Tsien Architects and commissions from Thomas Phifer Architects extend these investigations into built form. Based in Oakland, California."
